We know that wasps can be particularly aggressive and dangerous insects to humans and beyond. These insects can create problems for bees and crops.
Among them there are even more dangerous species than the commonly known wasp and one of them, lately, is creating some alarm in Italy. In fact, an ever-increasing number of orientalis wasp specimens are spreading across our peninsula.
This type of wasp is quite similar to the European hornet and is expanding its presence in areas where it was not felt until a few years ago. Some concern is generated due to its characteristics, which we are going to illustrate.

Aesthetically, it is no larger than a common hornet, but is easily distinguished by its reddish color, interrupted by a yellow stripe on the abdomen. It is part of the Hymenoptera family and therefore represents a risk for the population already allergic to the stings of bees, wasps and hornets.
The poison has no differences with the others and therefore is not more dangerous from this point of view. But the danger, according to experts, is given by its greater aggressiveness: if disturbed, it can attack with multiple bites. It is also active, compared to other species of wasps, even in broad daylight.
The orientalis wasp nests in cavities and cavities in the ground, trees or walls. It feeds on leftover food and sugary drinks, experts report that it is particularly attracted to piles of garbage.
