Studies are mounting that it was rock bombardment that brought life to our planet. This theory is getting stronger and stronger thanks to analyzes carried out by a team of scientists in Japan. The researchers claim that the four fundamental elements of DNA emerged precisely in fragments of meteorites.

What did they report? The team from Hokkaido University, conducting valuable research, was able to observe the presence of two nitrogenous bases (i.e. timid and cytosine) in three different meteorites. In all three cases, it was possible to establish that the rock fragments belong to a period ranging from 5 to 4 billion years.

This could mean that life on planet Earth was brought precisely through the impact of these meteorites which contained microorganisms within them. The timing is also very encouraging, as it is around 4 billion years ago – when the globe most likely formed.

How will the research unfold? For now, the scientists will continue to work on what they have learned and then expand their studies elsewhere, that is to try to understand if these particular molecules are also recognizable in the so-called primordial asteroids.
