ACLU State Director Quits Job, Blasts Organization for Intolerance

Maya Dillard Smith, a black woman, quit her job last week. Was bigotry and harassment to blame for her quitting? Sort of. I’ll let her explain what happened:

I have shared my personal experience of having taken my elementary school age daughters into a women’s restroom when shortly after three transgender young adults, over six feet [tall] with deep voices, entered. My children were visibly frightened, concerned about their safety and left asking lots of questions for which I, like many parents, was ill-prepared to answer.

So she began asking questions about President Obama’s transgender mandate forcing schools to allow boys who think they are girls to use the girls’ restrooms. But her employer had no tolerance for her commonsense values.

So, Dillard Smith, who has degrees from Berkeley and Harvard, quit her job. . . as executive director of the Georgia ACLU. She was reportedly one of only three black ACLU state directors.

She blasted the ACLU for being intolerant and refusing to “engage in dialogue.” She said the radical group is “a special interest organization that promotes” only “certain progressive rights . . . based on who is funding the organization’s lobbying activities.”

Dillard Smith’s experience is another reminder that black Americans supported traditional marriage in greater percentages than white Americans.

Conservatives need to be reaching out to the black community on values issues. But, first, the Republican Party has to find the will to actually fight for these issues and make the case for traditional values. Continue Reading

Trump’s Veterans Controversy Exposes Media’s Blatant Double Standard

From left: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

For weeks the media have been hounding Donald Trump over whether he had fulfilled a pledge to donate millions of dollars to veterans groups. This week, Trump held a press conference to put the issue to rest.

Flanked by vets, Trump read a list of dozens of groups he financially supported. He said he had not released the details because he did not want the attention, yet the media demanded details.

By the way, where is the media frenzy over Hillary Clinton’s email scandal? An Associated Press Fact Check strongly suggests she has been lying to the American people.

Why aren’t reporters demanding details from Hillary about the Clinton Global Initiative? It was reported months ago that the FBI had launched a public corruption probe.

Why hasn’t Hillary Clinton held a single press conference this entire year? Why don’t the media seem to care? Well, we know the answer to that one.

A small group of veterans held a demonstration outside of Trump Tower during Trump’s press conference. Alexander McCoy, the leader of the group, categorically denied they were part of the Clinton operation, but it didn’t take long to discover evidence to the contrary.

One big clue for me was their signs reading, “We won’t be props for hate. We will stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters.”

Who would that be? The peaceful Muslim neighbors next door or the Tsarnaev brothers? The San Bernardino shooters? The Fort Hood shooter? Continue Reading

Clinton Launches Dishonest Attack on Trump

The Clinton campaign released a new attack ad against Trump yesterday, accusing him of cheering the housing collapse in order to buy property inexpensively. This was a coordinated assault with Clinton surrogates in key states also making the charge that Trump profited from others’ suffering.

Trump’s response was unapologetic. That is what any smart business owner does — you buy assets when the price falls.

No one should mistake what Clinton and her allies are trying to do here. They are trying to turn Donald Trump into Mitt Romney, who they successfully branded as a “vulture capitalist.”

But it is a very dishonest attack. As Bernie Sanders has pointed out, Hillary didn’t have any moral dilemmas about accepting millions of dollars from Wall Street bankers who were bailed out by the taxpayers.

Leading Clinton’s charge was Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. But there’s just one problem: Warren has also bought distressed properties and flipped them for profit.

And let’s not miss the bigger picture here. If Clinton and Warren want to talk about the housing collapse, let’s talk about the role big government and left-wing policies played in creating that crisis.

Why did the housing market collapse? At least in part due to left-wing pressure that forced banks to make risky loans.

GOP Moves Closer to Unity

From left: Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI)

A deeply divided Republican Party took a major step toward victory yesterday. Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan met yesterday morning to discuss their differences as well as areas of agreement. After their meeting on Capitol Hill, they issued the following statement:

The United States cannot afford another four years of the Obama White House, which is what Hillary Clinton represents. That is why it’s critical that Republicans unite around our shared principles, advance a conservative agenda, and do all we can to win this fall.

With that focus, we had a great conversation this morning. While we were honest about our few differences, we recognize that there are also many important areas of common ground. We will be having additional discussions, but remain confident there’s a great opportunity to unify our party and win this fall, and we are totally committed to working together to achieve that goal.

We are extremely proud of the fact that many millions of new voters have entered the primary system, far more than ever before in the Republican Party’s history. This was our first meeting, but it was a very positive step toward unification.

In a press conference shortly afterwards, Speaker Ryan said he was “very encouraged” by the meeting. Ryan continued to praise Donald Trump’s record of winning the most Republican primary votes ever — even before California has voted — and for bringing more voters to the GOP banner. Continue Reading

Obama’s Contempt for Rule of Law Reaches New Level

President Barack Obama (photo credit: Marc Nozell via Flickr, CC BY 2.0)

The Obama Administration declared war yesterday on normalcy and the rule of law when Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced that she was countersuing the state of North Carolina over its commonsense bathroom law.

Make no mistake about what is going on here: The Obama Administration is unilaterally rewriting the law. It is attempting to force every state in the nation to comply with its radical demand that men and boys who “identify” as women and girls suddenly have a new “civil right” to use whatever bathroom they choose.

The left is on thin ice legally. No law Attorney General Lynch is citing supports her position. Neither the 1964 Civil Rights Act nor Title IX say anything about “gender identity.”

As attorney and columnist David French notes, the left has been trying — and failing — for years to change the law:

For more than 20 years, LGBT activists have sought to amend federal law through the so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act, a bill that would essentially add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes within federal nondiscrimination law. For more than 20 years, LGBT activists have failed. ENDA hasn’t passed even when Democrats controlled the presidency and both houses of Congress.

So what gives Obama and Lynch the right to impose their radical values on the residents of North Carolina and on school children across America?

I know the left doesn’t care about the Constitution. It believes that the ends justify the means. Continue Reading

Kudos to Ted Cruz

After Indiana’s disappointing results came in, Texas Senator Ted Cruz suspended his campaign. It was a very wise decision.

I had just finished an appearance on the Fox Business Network, in which I tried to avoid suggesting that he should drop out. But by the time I got back to my house, Senator Cruz had made the announcement.

Tuesday night, Senator Cruz put the country before his own ambitions. He knows the ultimate goal is to stop Hillary Clinton and prevent the left’s “fundamental transformation” of America. The Republican Party and the conservative movement must be united.

And the party is coming together. As I write, news is breaking that Ohio Governor John Kasich has suspended his campaign too.

As a former presidential candidate, I know that it is never an easy decision to drop out. You know you are letting loyal supporters down. But as Senator Cruz said Tuesday night, the movement to defend the Constitution and our Judeo-Christian values continues.

He reminded us Tuesday night that there is no substitute for victory. We must defeat Hillary Clinton in November!

Surprised by Cruz’s decision, Donald Trump praised Cruz as “one hell of a competitor,” adding, “He is a tough, smart guy. And he has got an amazing future.”

In fact, some have suggested Senator Cruz would make a great Supreme Court Justice. As a clerk to the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Cruz learned from one of the best.

The Media Ignores the Left’s Growing Violence

Photo credit: Edward Kimmel via Flickr (CC BY-SA 2.0)

The “storm troopers” of the radical left have been busy in recent days.

In California, open borders radicals beat up and harassed conservative activists attempting to attend the state Republican convention. There were mob attacks on individuals, which, by the way, you won’t see on the network news.

Now that’s interesting. When a 78-year old Trump supporter punched a demonstrator, we’re shown that video over and over again as evidence of rising intolerance and “fascism” in America. But what happened in California has largely been ignored. The Mexican flags were ignored. The violence and profanity of the left was ignored.

Sunday was May Day, a socialist-communist holiday. Not surprisingly, given the left’s tendencies, it ended in violence. In Seattle, police officers were assaulted with rocks and Molotov cocktails. Nine people were arrested.

FBI agents arrested a South Florida man Friday evening for plotting to fire bomb a synagogue. One press report suggested the man may be a Muslim convert.

Meanwhile, as anti-Semitic violence is reaching record-breaking levels in England, the left-wing Labour Party, led by an avowed socialist, just launched an inquiry into growing anti-Semitism within its own ranks.

And, of course, this doesn’t include the countless incidents of intimidation and harassment that take place each day on college campuses against conservative students and speakers.

In Germany, during the 1930s, Nazi thugs silenced anyone who dared to speak out against them. (By the way, the Nazis were socialists.) Today’s socialists are increasingly using violence in the same way to silence debate. Continue Reading

Cruz Wins Big Endorsement from Gov. Pence

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (photo credit: Gage Skidmore)

Indiana’s presidential primary is next week, Tuesday, May 3rd. And this afternoon, Sen. Ted Cruz got a big boost when Governor Mike Pence endorsed him. Here are some excerpts of Governor Pence’s remarks:

I’m not against anybody, but I will be voting for Ted Cruz in the Republican primary. I am a Reagan conservative. . . I see Ted Cruz as a principled conservative who’s dedicated his career to advancing the Reagan agenda. . .

I’m very impressed with Ted Cruz’s devotion and knowledge of the Constitution. . . to our Second Amendment, and of course, I appreciate his strong and unwavering stand for the sanctity of life. . . He has shown the courage of his convictions. It’s not a popular thing in Washington to take on the leadership of your own party, and he has been willing to do it.

Indeed, he has. Just ask John Boehner and Mitch McConnell!

Polls show the race in Indiana is a dead heat between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Perhaps Gov. Pence’s endorsement will make the difference.

By the way, Governor Pence handled the endorsement the right way. He did not use rhetoric that savaged the other candidates. Instead, he raised up Cruz.

He also made it clear that he would “work my heart out” for whomever wins the GOP nomination, adding, “The course of [the Obama Administration] will only be magnified by either of the current Democrat candidates.”

Who Are the Real Extremists on Abortion?

From left: Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton face off during an ABC News Democratic presidential debate on Dec. 19, 2015 (photo credit: Disney | ABC Television Group via Flickr)

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently made headlines for her extreme position on abortion. During a recent appearance on the The View, Clinton explained her support for Roe v. Wade by saying that an unborn baby has no legal rights and can be aborted right up until the moment of birth.

Not to be outdone, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders said yesterday, “I think we should expand funding for Planned Parenthood,” America’s biggest abortion business. I guess that’s one big business the Vermont socialist likes.

But there’s more. . .

Sanders also said, “I will use the Department of Justice to go after” states that are trying to impose restrictions on abortion.

What kind of restrictions is Sanders talking about? Reasonable regulations that require abortion facilities to meet basic health and safety standards. Limits on late-term abortions. Parental notification laws. Sanders would use the brute power of the federal government to strike them all down.

Whoever ultimately gets the Republican presidential nomination should not be afraid of this issue. It is a gift!

It shows that the real extremists are not pro-life conservatives, but the pro-abortion, no-exceptions-at-any-time, leaders of the Democrat Party.

Felons for Hillary

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) signed a sweeping executive order last Friday restoring voting rights to more than 200,000 ex-felons. The move potentially expands Virginia’s voting rolls by nearly 4 percent.

That is not an insignificant figure. Virginia’s 2014 Senate race was decided by fewer than 18,000 votes or eight-tenths of one percent. The year before, the race for attorney general was decided by 165 votes out of more than 2.2 million cast, or 0.007 percent.

And in 2012, Barack Obama won Virginia by fewer than 150,000 votes or 3.9 percent.

There is no question that this move overwhelmingly benefits Democrats. Few doubt that former DNC Chairman McAuliffe was doing his part to make sure that Virginia would be in Hillary Clinton’s column in November.

McAuliffe was clearly borrowing from Barack Obama’s playbook. This executive order is likely unconstitutional and exceeds McAuliffe’s authority as governor. But don’t take my word for it.

Democrat Tim Kaine, who served as governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010, was asked by the ACLU to do exactly what Terry McAuliffe just did. The Kaine Administration declined, telling the ACLU that “A blanket order restoring the voting rights of everyone would be a rewrite of the law. . .”

Even the left-wing New York Times acknowledged as much, writing, “The action effectively overturns a Civil War-era provision in the state’s Constitution.” No governor has the power to overturn his state’s constitution!

Once again, the left does not hesitate to assault the rule of law in order to advance its own agenda. Continue Reading
