Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Sen. Cruz and Rep. King Leave Seats for the Unborn

From left: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Steve King (R-IA)

At tonight’s State of the Union there will be at least two chairs left empty to draw attention to the damage that nearly 43 years of abortion on-demand has inflicted on our nation. Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Steve King will leave their seats open in remembrance of the millions of lives lost to abortion since Roe v. Wade.

In announcing that he will leave his seat empty, Rep. King told The Hill that, instead of listening to the President’s speech, he will be just off the Rotunda praying in the Members’ chapel “for God to raise up a leader whom he will use to restore the Soul of America.”

The entire pro-life movement will stand with them in solidarity tonight.

Every child lost to abortion is a unique individual, endowed by his or her Creator with a specific purpose and mission, a contribution to make to their family, their community, the world. Our nation suffers in a specific way for the loss of each child. We will be a stronger nation on the day we elect a president who resolves to end this sorrow.

Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Rick Santorum

Last Friday, seven GOP presidential candidates sat down for a “Thanksgiving Dinner” style forum with Frank Luntz in Iowa. The discussions covered a variety of policy issues, but the theme of the evening centered on faith and family.

Senator Rick Santorum shared a moving story about a time he believed God was testing the limits of his strength. He recalled feeling compelled to champion the life issue during the fight to override then President Clinton’s veto on the partial-birth abortion ban.

On the last day of the debate, he offered an impassioned argument for the sanctity of human life. Sen. Santorum’s heartfelt speech was inspired by the fact that his wife, Karen, was 20 weeks pregnant and awaiting a sonogram to determine the health of their unborn son.

Mr. Santorum has been a champion for life throughout his political career, and we thank him for his powerful and consistent voice!

You can watch his testimony and read the transcript below:

But when I did find the Lord I found myself in a situation where I felt called to take up issues that I vowed I would never do before, and one of them was the issue of life. It just so happened that the issue of partial-birth abortion was on the floor of the Senate at the time and President Clinton had vetoed it, and the person who was supposed to override that veto – fight for it – was a senator from New Hampshire who was up for re-election and he didn’t want to do it because New Hampshire is a tough state, as we all know, on that issue.

Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Rubio Flips Loaded Abortion Question onto Hillary

Throughout this election cycle the entire GOP field has gone on offense for unborn children!

A great example this week comes from Sen. Marco Rubio. While speaking at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire on Thursday, Rubio was asked a question that has tripped candidates in the past regarding when a human being deserves the protection of law.

Marco Rubio was flawless in his response. He clearly articulated his pro-life response and then calmly pointed out that Hillary Clinton holds a radical position on abortion. As has been the case in the past, the press frequently goes after pro-life candidates while ignoring pro-abortion candidates’ support for late-term abortion, taxpayer funding of abortion, and a host of other extreme positions. For example, during her time in the U.S. Senate, Clinton opposed even the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban. She also continues to speak out against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, compassionate, common sense legislation to protect babies and women more than halfway through pregnancy.

Senator Marco Rubio is my pick of the week for his great answer and effort to expose the extreme pro-abortion position of Hillary Clinton.   The video and transcript are below.

Reporter: Senator, you’ve said you believe life begins at conception. Do you believe a fertilized egg has legal protections?

Rubio: I don’t know what you’re talking – I believe life is worthy of the protection of our laws. That’s what I believe. I believe that all life is worthy of the protection of our laws. I believe that it’s outrageous that Hillary Clinton supports partial-birth abortion which is a gruesome process that has been outlawed in the United States, but she supports it as a process that should be legal.

Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Huckabee Takes on Whoopi Goldberg on Abortion

Former Governor and current presidential candidate Mike Huckabee took on Whoopi Goldberg on abortion during his interview on “The View” this week.

When Goldberg criticized his pro-life position saying, “It’s not your body, it’s not your life,” Huckabee corrected her, clarifying that there are two separate lives involved in a pregnancy. The audience broke into applause when he went on offense, defending the lives of both the child and mother:

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: So Governor Mike, I assume that in talking about all these medical and health benefits, that you are taking into consideration, because I looked over some of your comments about abortion and I found them troubling.  You said that there are two victims: One is the child, the other is the birth mother.  Do you think that guilting somebody who’s making a really horrific choice in their life is really the way to go?

MIKE HUCKABEE: No, in fact the opposite.  I think you don’t put guilt on the mother.  That’s the problem…

GOLDBERG: Except that’s kind of what you’re saying.

HUCKABEE: No, in fact that’s why I said that often the birth mother is the victim.

GOLDBERG: And so if someone makes a choice that they have to make why wouldn’t you be supportive of that.  It’s not your body it’s not your life.  These people are making choices they have to make, why wouldn’t you be supportive of that.  I think that’s what I’m asking here.

HUCKABEE: Right, and I think that’s a fair question Whoopi, but the fact is, it’s really not just an extension of the body of the mother.

Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Marco Rubio

Senator Marco Rubio called out Hillary Clinton for her support of “abortion on demand at any stage” in an interview with Glenn Beck this week:

She on the other hand, supports abortion on demand at any stage. She has extreme positions on the issue of life and I hope that we’ll be able to talk about them.

Rubio emphasized that in a pregnancy, two lives are at stake, and both should be protected. He then reinforced his solid pro-life position:

The problem is that when there’s a pregnancy, there’s another life involved and that life has a right to live. And so, as policymakers we have to choose between two competing rights, and I’ve chosen as a matter of principle to choose life in that debate.

Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Rick Santorum

Senator and longtime pro-life advocate Rick Santorum went head to head with Whoopi Goldberg on The View this week, and did a great job countering her pro-abortion argument.

Sen. Santorum called for defunding Planned Parenthood, and instead reallocating their federal funding to comprehensive health centers that don’t provide abortions. Santorum also exposed a frequently repeated falsehood, adding:

“Planned Parenthood, for example, does not provide mammograms. Now, I know people say they do, but they don’t.”

Goldberg cut in, “Yeah, they do.”

Sen. Santorum corrected her, “In fact, Cecile Richards said yesterday in the hearing that, in fact, they do not. In fact,  there are no Planned Parenthoods that provide any mammogram services. They basically provide abortion, contraceptive, STDs, things – and pregnancy tests. That’s it. There are much more comprehensive women’s health care centers.”

Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Marco Rubio

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) (photo credit: Gage Skidmore)

Senator Marco Rubio is making protecting life a priority in his presidential campaign.

Sen. Rubio gave pro-lifers assurance that if elected president, he would stop late-term abortions and defund Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business:

By 2020, I hope we will be able to say that abortions after 20 weeks are illegal and that no taxpayer money is used to fund abortions here or abroad and Planned Parenthood doesn’t receive a penny from the federal government.

He also said that standing up for life is a “human right” and transcends political and policy-making issues. He called on all presidential candidates to be “on the side of the people” and fight to ban abortion:

No candidate for president can claim to be on the side of our people if they do not believe every person has the right to exist. That is why the issue ‘right to live’ is more than political or policy related. It is not a political issue; it is a human rights issue.

Marjorie’s Media Pick of Week: Carly Fiorina

Earlier this week, Carly Fiorina knocked it out of the park with an online ad, “Faces,” aimed at responding to Donald Trump and empowering women across America, unlocking their leadership potential.

Tonight, she brought that idea one step further, going on offense to expose Planned Parenthood’s extremism in a high stakes debate:

In her first prime time presidential debate, Carly Fiorina did exactly what we want to see our pro-life allies in Congress do: she sought to draw Americans’ attention to the undercover Planned Parenthood videos and expose the horror that goes on inside Planned Parenthood clinics across the country. Carly powerfully communicated to the American people, in just a few seconds, the level at which Planned Parenthood performs abortions, including their illegal profiteering from the sale of baby body parts. Carly dared Hillary Clinton and President Obama to watch these videos, which they have attempted to ignore for months.

Carly also brought in another face we need to see — the face of the child, whose heart continued beating even after he had been aborted — whose face was cut open in order to have his brain harvested.

Carly’s courageous, life-affirming approach is one we hope to see all candidates — and Congress — embrace when it comes to defunding America’s largest abortion provider.

Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Jeb Bush

This week’s pro-life media pick goes to Gov. Jeb Bush for his compassionate, thoughtful response concerning Pope Francis’ announcement regarding confession and abortion. In responding to a question from Fox News’ Martha McCallum about Pope Francis’ move to allow all Catholic priests to absolve the sin of abortion, Gov. Bush, a practicing Catholic, stated:

Look, I think we could all use a lot of mercy in this world, and the Pope is a loving person and having absolution — allowing priests to give absolution is extraordinary, but it’s not — I’m not surprised at all. I hope that we also focus on mercy for the unborn — the hundreds of thousands of babies that will die. I think we need to have a society that protects life from beginning to end, and we should be a repentant society, for sure, and mercy should be at the heart of everything.

Gov. Bush’s response begins with a fundamental truth: that the pro-life movement is a movement of mercy and hope – as Pope Francis has been so successful in communicating. Gov. Bush then goes on to draw attention to the plight of hundreds of thousands of unborn children that die in the United States each year because of abortion. Gov. Bush spoke well for voiceless unborn boys and girls — and their mothers — who suffer in our nation’s abortion culture.

Marjorie’s Media Pick of the Week: Carly Fiorina

Carly Fiorina rightfully slammed Hillary Clinton for her outrageous comparison of pro-life Americans, including Republican presidential candidates, to terrorists. This morning on FOX News, Carly spoke with Martha McCallum about the shockingly out of touch remark and went on offense to expose Clinton’s extreme support for Planned Parenthood and abortion on demand up until the moment of birth. Click below to watch.

It’s an outrageous statement and she will be called on it. But it’s also typical. It’s typical of Hillary Clinton. Frankly it’s typical of Democrats…What it tells us is that Hillary Clinton has no qualms about continuing to try and wage the supposed War on Women card as she runs for president. We ought to expect this. Democrats are continually describing Republicans as extreme when the truth is it’s Democrats who are extreme.

Fiorina elaborated on Clinton’s radical positions saying:

…She continues to defend Planned Parenthood.  Planned Parenthood can no longer be defended, and yet Hillary Clinton is out there defending them. It’s unclear if she has ever had the courage to watch these video tapes, to actually see what Planned Parenthood is doing. So, Hillary Clinton and her party are the extremists here are the extremists on a whole series of issues – and her comparing any Republican to a terrorist is simply over the line.

What I intend to keep on doing, and I have been doing it from the very beginning, is calling her out –  and any other Democrat out – on the extreme positions that they hold… It is extreme to say that it’s not a Life until it leaves the hospital.
