In a video published yesterday, Jim DeMint, president of the Heritage Foundation, urged viewers to attend the March for Marriage that will be occurring tomorrow, as well as generally standing up for traditional marriage:
Hi, this is Jim DeMint with the Heritage Foundation. I want to speak with you today, about something vitally important to the health of our nation: marriage. I want to encourage you to talk to your family and friends, and if you can, to make your voice heard right here in Washington DC, when the March for Marriage takes place on Saturday, April 25th. Just a few days after the march, the Supreme Court will hear challenges to laws that define marriage as a union of a man and a woman. Let’s stand a defend the institution of marriage, which existed long before government to provide children with mothers and fathers. 39 states currently have good laws on the books defining marriage as a union of a man and a woman. These laws were passed democratically with overwhelming support, and yet unelected judges have struck down these marriage laws in 26 states. The people and their elected representatives should debate the issue and make marriage policy, not unaccountable judges. States should be free to make policies that serve the common good by reflecting the truth that marriage is the union of a man and a woman, for the good of our children, our society, and our government. All Americans have the freedom to live as they choose, but no one has a right to redefine marriage for the rest of us.
