At Liberty University, Dr. Ben Carson promised concrete legal protections for traditional believers if he is elected president:

One such priority, he said, was protecting the ‘religious freedom’ of people who believe on religious grounds that marriage is ‘between one man and one woman’. Carson promised, if elected president, to push Congress to make this a matter of national law.

‘We’re going to have to have a president who’s willing to work with the legislature to put things back in order,’ he said, to cheers and applause.

Carson has endorsed the First Amendment Defense Act. I wish he would talk more about the specific protections it would provide, preventing federal government bureaucrats, or the next Democratic president, from denying Christians and other gay marriage dissenters equal access to government benefits in everything from IRS tax exempt status for our schools and ministries to government employment and contracts.
